The EQUIPMENT chosen for this trip is as specialized as if we were climbing Mt. Everest and complicated by the fact that we have a car and are making a film. The Buggy is designed as a recreational vehicle with little storage capacity. Originally there was not even a spare tire! It is also critical to keep weight at a minimum for gliding over sand and mud and to ease in recovery operations when we inevitably get stuck. After rebuilding, one small spare (a front wheel which can be fitted to the rear in an emergency) will be bolted on top of the roll-cage. Some bulky but light weight items like sleeping bags and tent can be strapped on the hood. Everything else must be packed behind the seats.

Apart from clothing and toiletries (a chapter in itself on such a trip) the gear can be divided into three categories;
1) Car Stuff - including tools & recovery equipment
2) Camping and Survival - no room for food or cooking gear so we will eat what the locals eat
3) Film Equipment - can't cheat here or the film quality will suffer.
